GREENO2 PROJECT PRESENTED AT THE SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON MASS COMMUNICATION IN UKRAINE

The results of the Erasmus+ GREENO2 Project were presented by Professor Bogdana Nosova from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv during the IV Scientific and Practical Conference of Students, Postgraduates and Young Scientists “Contemporary Mass Communication Space: History, Realities, Prospects”, hosted by Sumy State University (Ukraine) on May 22–23, 2025 online and offline.

Professor Nosova delivered a presentation entitled “Environmental Journalism in the Context of War and Global Challenges: Education and International Cooperation.” Her study examined the transformation of environmental journalism in light of Russia’s war against Ukraine and the broader global ecological crisis, emphasizing the growing importance of international cooperation and innovative educational projects such as GREENO2 in equipping future journalists to report on environmental and climate-related issues in times of crisis.

The presentation highlighted Ukraine’s strong tradition of environmental journalism education at the Institute of Journalism, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where courses on environmental communication and climate journalism have been offered for over two decades. Educational initiatives like the “Green Institute of Journalism” and the University’s ongoing ecological campaigns, including collaborations with the Olexander Fomin Botanical Garden and the Kaniv Nature Reserve, were presented as examples of integrating sustainability into academic life.

Professor Bogdana Nosova also underlined the significance of Ukraine’s participation in European academic networks through the Erasmus+ Programme, including the GREENO2 project – “Green Roofs in higher education institutions as sustainable cEnters for research, participation, ENvironmental consciousness and O2 generation” – coordinated by the University of Tuscia (Italy). The project promotes climate change education, ecological awareness, and innovative communication strategies across universities in six European countries.

Through her presentation, Professor Bogdana Nosova demonstrated how the GREENO2 project contributes to the broader mission of fostering environmental responsibility, academic collaboration, and sustainable communication practices in Ukraine and across Europe.

The annual academic conference, organized by Sumy State University (Ukraine), publishes a Book of Abstracts containing scientific materials from students, postgraduates, and young researchers participating in the event. The studies presented are part of the university’s comprehensive research programme, aligned with the scientific directions of the Department of Journalism and Philology, under the theme “Contemporary Mass Communication Space: History, Realities, Prospects.” The conference is intended for professors, lecturers, teachers, scientists, graduate students, doctoral students, students, and other interested participants.
